I am a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana, with deep personal and professional ties to this community and its public schools. My dedication to education and local outreach is anchored in a long-standing family history of service.

My late mother, May Lee Johnson, spent approximately 20 years working in Catholic education and another 20 years serving as a well-known columnist for the South Bend Tribune. Through her writing and work, she advocated for community empowerment, youth development, and social connection across South Bend. Furthermore, my adult son is a proud graduate of the South Bend Community School Corporation.

These local roots reinforce my daily commitment as an educator and leader: public schools are the heart of our neighborhood, and every student deserves an environment built on high expectations, strong support systems, and authentic care.

Career Transition: Bridging Corporate Experience & K-12 Education

Prior to transitioning into full-time K-12 education, I spent more than 20 years in corporate management, logistics, sales, customer account development, and operations supervision. Managing teams, coordinating complex freight schedules, maintaining strict regulatory compliance, and driving accountability in fast-paced corporate environments laid a strong foundation for my work in school leadership.

When I stepped into the classroom over seven years ago, I brought those operational frameworks with me. I recognized that structured classroom management, transparent family communication, data-driven reading interventions, and schoolwide behavioral systems (PBIS/MTSS) thrive on the exact same principles as successful enterprise operations: clear standards, proactive planning, and supportive leadership.

My transition through the Bethel University Transition to Teaching pathway and graduate coursework at Youngstown State University and Bethel University has continually refined my pedagogical expertise while allowing me to view educational organizations through a holistic, strategic lens.
